National Feast of Lanterns 2011
Taking place at the Newark Showground in Nottinghamshire for 4 nights over the August Bank Holiday (25th-29th August), the 2011 National Feast of Lanterns (NFOL), hosted by the Central Counties Region of the Camping & Caravanning Club will be celebrating the ‘Best of British’.
The NFOL– termed by one journalist as the ‘Glastonbury for campers’ – is the Camping and Caravanning Clubs premier camping event aimed at all members who enjoy camping and who are content with fewer amenities than full facility camping. It showcases everything good about The Club to its members, guests and local residents, its organisational ability, its code of conduct and its reputation for friendliness and fun. Traditionally a celebration of the end of the camping season, the NFOL is an annual event where campers join from all over the country, bringing homemade Chinese lanterns with them to decorate their tents or caravans.
The District of Newark and Sherwood is famed worldwide for its connections with the legendary hero Robin Hood. His home was the nearby Sherwood Forest and there are many reminders of his presence throughout the District. In recognition of this the organising committee would like to attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Robin Hood!
The present record, set in 2008, stands at 1119 Robins. The NFOL want to bring the record back to the Camping and Caravanning Club and feel that with more than 2,000 units expected to attend, there is an excellent chance of regaining the record. All participants must be dressed in a complete costume, consisting of hat with feather, green or brown tunic, trousers/tights and appropriate footwear – the style of clothing must be in keeping with the traditional Robin Hood style. They need everyone to join in the fun so get begging, borrowing or making your costumes right now!
One of Hi-Tec’s core brand values is ‘FUN’ – we are serious about what we do but do not take ourselves seriously, we approach work creatively and life with a smile, celebrating the positive. So we think this is a truly wonderful and fun idea and are pleased to be offering prizes for the youngest and oldest Robin Hoods; the best dressed adult Robin Hoods (1 man and 1 woman) and the best dressed child Robin Hoods (1 boy and 1 girl)!
The prize available will be a pair of Hi-Tec’s first environmentally considered walking boots, the Altitude IV NT Enviro WPi. Hi-Tec proudly joined forces with the National Trust last year to launch a family of walking boots, inspired by nature and developed specifically with their environmental impact in mind. The boots are available in men’s sizes 7-14’s (inc ½’s), women’s sizes 4-9’s (inc ½’s) and kid’s sizes J10-6.
