Two reasons you should take a hike this spring

Two reasons you should take a hike this spring

Each of the four seasons presents a new set of reasons to dust off your hiking boots and take in the great outdoors. From cool, crisp winter landscapes to gorgeous summer sunsets, you can always find some excuse to don your hiking boots, whatever time of year it is.

The season of spring is a particularly pleasant time of year to go hiking. Here are two reasons you should consider taking a ramble this springtime.

1.     Spring Life

The transition between winter and summer is one of the most breathtaking spectacles on planet earth. As our hemisphere tilts toward the sun, the climate warms and days get longer. As this happens, the snow begins to melt and the streams begin to swell.

Spring is a time of growth, renewal and new life. Many flowering plants begin to bloom at this time of year, whilst many animals are being born. The season normally conjures images of new-born lambs and lush green landscapes.

It is these characteristics that make spring such a wonderful time to do some hiking. Hiking is an opportunity to indulge in the wonders of spring. You can escape from city dwellings and the hustle of working life, capitalising on the chance to stand in awe of Mother Nature.

2.     Bank Holidays

The main barrier that stands in the way of us doing more hiking is usually time. What with work and housekeeping, it can be difficult to find the free moment to go hiking. After all, the best hikes usually take up an entire day, possibly more if you’ve decided to pitch a tent.

If you reside in the UK, then the springtime presents a host of bank holidays, perfect for long hiking weekends. All in all there are four bank holidays to look forward to in the spring:

  • Good Friday
  • Easter Monday
  • Early May Bank Holiday
  • Spring Bank Holiday

What’s more, this year’s Royal wedding means there is an extra bank holiday sandwiched in between Easter Monday and the Early May Bank Holiday. There’s ample time to go hiking in spring, and you won’t need to use any of your statutory leave!
