TRAILWALKER 2012

TRAILWALKER 2012

Amongst the abundant selection of walking fundraisers there are available to choose from, not many come close to the annual Trailwalker challenge. Started 30 years ago as a training exercise for the Gurkha regiments, this challenge entails 100km to be walked, ran or crawled in under 30 hours across the harsh conditions of the Southern Downs coast. Competing in teams of four, there are very few challenges similar to this which demand such fitness and relentless effort but reward you with such pride and satisfaction.

Speaking from experience, one of the only ways to make this easier is to go prepared. This includes countless hours of training but most importantly your choice of clothing and footwear, as you will be relying on them to soften the countless blows to your feet across the 100km of rugged terrain. With little time to stop in the case of a blister or wet feet, choosing the right boot for your foot could be the difference between success and failure in this epic challenge. Fortunately, Hi-Tec succeeds in being able to kit you out for your journey ahead, offering you some of the most durable and comfortable walking accessories available.

Across the 100km, you will find yourself stepping into an environment where the weather is as predictable as your competition. Mud, rain, wind and scorching heat are just a standard concoction of what the Trailwalker can throw at you during your 30 hours, making it one of the most unpredictable yet enjoyable experiences out there in the walking community. This therefore is why it should not be underestimated just how important it is to prepare and choose the right clothing and accessories for your journey. Overlooking this area is a serious error of judgement and can not only prevent you completing the task in hand but it can also be dangerous, despite the help and support that comes with this challenge.

Although a challenge that many see as a competition amongst the hundreds of teams that enter, this fundraiser is a great way to not only raise money for a charity of your choice, it is also an opportunity to accomplish a feat that many would never even dream of doing. Offering you some of the most beautiful views of the Southern Downs, the route comprises of many smaller walks that are ever so popular with regular walkers on the southern coast of England. Whether you complete the challenge in the 30 hours or not, the efforts of each challenger are always acknowledged and Hi-Tec will be there with you every step of the way, through the wind and mud, sun or rain.
