After a long day’s hike it’s a reassuring feeling to know that you’re only a mile or two from your campsite. Once you’ve arrived, taken off your hiking boots and have given yourself and your feet a few minutes well earned rest, the time comes to get the tent erected, the food cooking on the stove before settling down for the evening.
Most campers who are on a hiking expedition won’t have a great deal of energy for anything too exhilarating in the evening however there a few simple things that you could do to pass the time away before sleep finally takes hold.
Playing Cards
Playing cards are the ultimate in games that entertain whilst being competitive and what is more, there are numerous different card games that are easy to learn, quick to teach and best of all, don’t require a great deal of space or equipment.
Perhaps the most convenient thing about playing cards for the hiking camper is that they are the ultimate in mobile entertainment and require little space to bring a long on your hiking trip.
Verbal Games
Verbal games don’t require any equipment. The only requirement is that the people playing the game aren’t too tired to talk.
Verbal games include such things as The Name Game where individuals state the names of famous people starting using the first letter of the surname of that stated by the previous player. There is also The Word Association Game where players have to quickly state words associated with the previous player’s word without repetition of one previously stated.
Action Games
Action games include games like Charades, where a person acts out a particular word or phrase. The game has several rules, but it’s relatively straightforward and is extremely popular at dinner parties. In fact, the game was once so popular it was made into a hugely successful British TV series called Give Us A Clue.
There are many other types of games that are suitable for those on a hiking camping holiday that don’t require too much additional equipment and will keep all in the group entertained before a good night’s sleep in readiness for the next leg of their journey.
