Great for the first eight weeks....But..

Grat boots with Vibram soles that are much better grip than your other HiTec Boots, I paricularly appreciate the toecap that protects this vulnerable leather, in your ordinary boots walking in wet grass quickly makes them look uncared for and starts to let water in. These boots are. Light weight,... Read More
breathable, supportive and waterproof for 8 weeks.
Then In spite of careful slow drying and regular teatment with NIKWAX footwear cleaning Gel and NIXWAX Fabric and Leather Proof.... the leather started to crack where it flexes, just behind the toecap, water gets in and the top layer of leather scabs off. This when they are only 15 weeks old...
Needs some better leather and/or suggest a suitable treatment that does not effect the breathability.but stops the cracking.
RESPONSE FROM HI-TEC:
We're really concerned to read your review. This has been a hugely popular style this year and we've had so much good feedback, particularly complimenting the high quality of these boots.
I have asked our Customer Services Team to get in touch with you to investigate this further. I hope you will leave another review for us when the matter is resolved.

Looks the part, acts the part.

I purchased these boots as some colleagues and myself were planning to climb mount Snowdon and I was in need of a replacement pair.
My initial draw was the look as I feel they really do look the part; rugged and durable. This ended up being exactly what they were... Read More when it got to climbing Snowdon. They were also really comfortable, I had been wearing them for about 9 hours altogether and didn't get a single blister/cut. I even managed a little trail running in them due to my confidence in the boots.
I was also sold on the features of the boots, the rolling gait and vibram soles really made a huge difference. I can also confirm the waterproofing works, I had tested them out in some muddy bogs over Hadleigh Castle and then through numerous puddles and even the lakes in Snowdonia.
I plan to use these for some more adventures this year with a trip to Scafell Pike and Zion National Park in Utah.

|I grew up in an era when everybody and their dog wore Silver Shadow trainers and Hi-Tec were one of the great British sports shoe manufactures. I never saw them as a walking boot manufacturer and I think brand snobbery has sometimes pushed me towards other footwear brands over the... Read More years. When I got these I was really surprised by the quality of the leather and the new RGS Vibram sole looked completely different to anything I've seen before. They seemed to fit Instantly and coupled with my [branded] insoles felt like slippers !! The first trek out saw me and a friend take to the Peak District on a 9 miler.....without breaking them in at all !! We encountered some really wet grass slopes that day and the boots seemed to lack real purchase but maybe I'm just trying to pick fault as looking back no boot could have gripped on what we found. The second day out saw me clock up 18 mile in around the outskirts of the town I live in tackling slopes, woodland, bog and road and it honestly felt like I'd not got boots on....the RGS is class !! Several trips later and loads of sticking my feet in water, mud and general British countryside muck I have never once felt they wouldn't be up to the task....feet have always been bone dry and really really comfortable. The only negative I have is the RGS system doesn't allow for a high heel and you may miss that although at the moment I haven't. Well done Hi-Tec.....well done indeed :0) Hide|
