Nick Matthew

Hi-Tec Sports are proud to present Nick Matthew, the current world ranked number 1 squash player.

The court is where it all started for Hi-Tec. Their original success grew from the breakthrough design of Hi-Tec’s first ever shoe, the Hi-Tec Squash Classic, specifically designed for the then fast growing game of squash.

Hi-Tec continue to push the boundaries with their squash shoe development with new technology introductions such as V-Lite and 4:SYS.

Hi-Tec's performance squash shoes are used by Nick Matthew, World No.1, World Champion & Commonwealth Games Champion, four time World Champion Amr Shabana and four time British Open Champion David Palmer.

Nicholas Matthew was born on 25 July 1980 in Sheffield, England where he attended the High Storrs School. Matthew first came to the squash world’s attention in 1998 as an outstanding junior player when he was a semi-finalist at the World Junior Championships and a member of the England team which won the world junior team title. That was also the year that he turned pro. The following year he became the British Junior Open under-19 champion.

The Yorkshireman made history in 2006 when, seeded sixth, he became the first Brit in 67 years to win the prestigious British Open title. He went on to claim the world famous trophy for a second time in 2009. The triumph marked the return of the England number one after he underwent career-threatening shoulder surgery 12 months prior.

Title Triumphs in four successive 2010 events – The Swedish Open, North American Open, Canary Wharf Classis and Sky Open – lead to Matthew topping the world rankings for the first time in June. He went on to win the following tournament too, the Australian Open in Canberra.

Boosted by two Gold Medals in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October, Matthew went on to finish the year on a high – winning the World Open for the first time in Saudi Arabia, becoming the first Englishman to do so. Closing out the year by clinching the PSA Masters crown back in Delhi to ensure that Nick would start the New Year once again as the DUNLOP PSA World No.1, going on to be crowned 2010 PSA Player of the Year at an awards ceremony in New York.

After losing to Ramy Ashour in the final of the Tournament of Champions at the start of 2011, it was wins all the way thereafter – success for the third year in a row in the Swedish Open before avenging his earlier defeat by beating Ramy in the North American Open final – then going on to celebrate his 20th career Tour title at the Canary Wharf Classic in London.

He reached a career-high world ranking of No. 1 in June 2010 and has held the title since.

Defeating Lee Beachill in the final of the British Open in 2006, becoming the first Englishman to hold the title since 1939.

In 2009 Matthew beat Adrian Grant in 3 straight sets in the final of the British Open, taking the title for a second time.

Matthew was a member of the England team which won the World Team Squash Championships in 2005 and 2007.

Winning the Qatar Classic Open title in 2009.

Matthew defeated compatriot James Willstrop in straight sets in the final of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

In 2010 Matthew became the first Englishman ever to win the World Open Squash Men’s Title.

Matthew defeated James Willstrop in the final of the PSA 2010 World Open.

Matthew beat Gregory Gaultier of France in the final of the PSA 2011 World Open.

After struggling with an injury in 2011, Matthew defeated James Willstrop in the final of the JP Morgan Tournament of Champions.
