Yorkshireman James Willstrop, 22, is now the highest ranked Englishman in the world, ranked 2nd behind Frenchman Thierry Lincou. The 6'4'' Yorkshireman was the former world junior champion. James is the most successful junior Englishman of all time having won British National titles at all age groups U/12, U/14, U/17 and U/19, and British Junior Open trophies at U/14, U/17 and U/19. In the same year, James established himself as the World Junior Number One, claiming European, British National, British Open and World Junior Championships.
In 2002 James, in a rare achievement, won the Junior Sportsman of the Year Award at the 20th Annual Variety Sporting Awards Dinner. HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, presented the prestigious award at the star-studded event at the Grosvenor House in Park Lane, London.
James represented England with distinction at all junior levels. Captaining the England U19 junior team to victory in the European Junior Team Championships. He has gone on to be one of the youngest players ever to play for the senior England team, representing his country at both European & World Team Championships in 2003.
This year James added to his four previous World Tour titles by beating Australian David Palmer. England's James Willstrop claimed the Qatar Classic title at the Khalifa International Complex in Doha after an 11-1 11-7 11-7 straight games victory.
The men's success marks Willstrop's fifth and biggest World Tour title of his career.
This victory meant that James formally world number 8 moved a massive 6 places into the number 2 spot behind the Frenchman.
Following his elevation to world number 2, Willstrop will lead England for the first time at the men's World Team Squash Championships.
In October 2006, James Willstrop reaches Semi-Final of the Cathay Pacific Swiss Priviledge Hong Kong Open.
Hi-Tec's Willstrop played Amr Shabana (EGY) scoring 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9 - a close fought match.
Willstrop triumphs as White fades, and goes on to win. James Willstrop overcame a tiring John White 8-11 11-5 10-11 11-1 11-2 to win the ISS Canary Wharf Squash Classic.
